Personal Statement
I am honored to seek a position on the ABFAS Board of Directors. Since earning board certification in 2018, I have been committed to supporting ABFAS' mission of excellence in foot and ankle surgery. I have served on the Case Review Committee and as a Case Reviewer since 2019, contributed to the Exam Blueprint Committee, and joined the Appeals Committee in 2023.
Through my involvement, I’ve helped shape positive changes, particularly in the Case Review and newly added appeals processes. These efforts aim to improve pass rates and ensure candidates are fairly evaluated, while upholding the high standards of board certification.
As a practicing foot and ankle surgeon in a small-town private practice with two colleagues, I have a deep understanding of the real-world challenges faced by both candidates and Diplomates. As a female surgeon, I recognize the unique obstacles women encounter in training, practice, and certification. I am particularly focused on reducing unnecessary barriers to certification, especially for all young physicians.
It is crucial to create an environment where all practitioners can thrive and reach their full potential. I am committed to fostering diversity and inclusion within our profession and in leadership roles. Representation matters—not only for the patients who benefit from diverse perspectives but also for the next generation of surgeons who seek mentors and role models to guide their careers. It would be a privilege to represent our members and advance the goals of ABFAS. Thank you for your consideration.
